Margaret Riley Peace Prize and Peace Corps Week Celebration
NCPCA is proud to present the Margaret Riley Peace Prize every spring at Peace Corps Night. This monetary award recognizes a small North Carolina, community-based nonprofit group that honors the values of the Peace Corps. We have been issuing this prize and bringing attention to organizations serving our communities since 1999. Our event coincides with Peace Corps Week, which is usually the first week in March. See our Peace Prize webpage here for information on past winners, and to stay up to date on the next call for nominations.
In 2026, the mayor of Durham issued a Proclamation to honor “Peace Corps Week” and the 65th Anniversary of the Peace Corps.

Fall Family Picnic
Our annual fall picnic is a family-friendly event in a beautiful, outdoor setting. We bring RPCVs and others together to share foods from around the world, swap stories ,and make new friends. All RPCVs and guests, kids, nominees, and prospective PCVs are welcome.
Recent events have been held at Beech Shelter at Lake Crabtree Park in September or October, but check the Events Calendar for the most up to date details and to RSVP. We provide the main dish (typically burgers and hot dogs), cups, cutlery, and bottled water. Alcoholic beverages are not allowed (park rules). We look forward to seeing you!
Annual Meeting and Holiday Party
You really shouldn’t miss our Annual Holiday Party! All NCPCA dues-paying members are invited to attend our annual holiday celebration in December. We host a wonderful potluck with a vast array of dishes. It’s BYOB, too! See our events calendar for details.
All NCPCA members receive separate invitations with all the event details and address. If you’re not yet a NCPCA member, now is a great time to join! See our Membership page for details. We also elect officers for the coming year at this event, review the activities of the year, and preview events to come. If you are interested in serving on the Steering Committee, please let us know.
