Social Events

NCPCA strives to offer social events and activities for RPCVs of all age groups and demographics. Below, we highlight some of our recurring social events. However, we offer lots of one time events like a trip to the North Carolina Zoo or group outing to an NC Courage soccer game. You can check out the Event Calendar for the most up-to-date information. If you would like to host an event for our Peace Corps community, please email us at [email protected]

Happy Hours

The monthly RPCV Happy Hours are open to RPCVs, prospective PCVs, PCV family members, and friends. It is Dutch treat, and very flexible. Arrive when you can, leave when you have to! We usually hold happy hours in Raleigh and in Durham on a monthly basis.

You can check out the Event Calendar for the most up-to-date information or contact Glenn Sappie or Will Halford.

  • Raleigh Happy Hour Contact: Glenn Sappie, RPCV/Paraguay  at [email protected], 919-345-6600
  • Durham Happy Hour Contact: Wil Hallford, RPCV/Kenya at [email protected], 601-813-7632

International Dinners

Join us for an international meal at a local restaurant! RPCVs and friends gather in one of the many restaurants in the Triangle that specialize in cuisine from different regions.  The time and location varies each month. Check the Event Calendar for the next Dinner. All are welcome!  It is important to RSVP for the International Dinners as space is often limited.

Walking, Hiking and Biking

Amy Bowes, RPCV/Lesotho, and Kate Gavaghan, RPCV/Botswana, have stepped up to lead bike rides or hikes. If others want to help organize hikes, please contact Kate (katielougav@yahoo.com). We try to have a mix of weekday/weekend hikes and walks. Paved greenways are a great option for strollers and those who prefer clean sneakers.

Book Group

Join us to read international books and eat international food! We read and discuss books about the world, or by international authors. Our potlucks often coordinate with theme or location of the book.  Meetings are on the third Sunday (usually) of odd-numbered months, beginning at 5:30 pm and finishing up around 8:30 pm. Check the Event Calendar for the next meeting, and then join our Google email group so you will get all the details.

Go to our Google Group page and request to join, so you’ll get announcements of all upcoming meetings, the RSVP info, and address. For more information, please contact Peggy S ([email protected]) or Ruth Heuer ([email protected])
